MENCAP CHILDREN’S AND FAMILY CENTRE

Mencap Children’s and Families Centre offers care and therapy facilities for children with a learning disability and support for their families. Delivered in partnership with Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, the service is unique in that families benefit from having a spectrum of specialist help under one roof. The Nursery is also registered with the Early Years Team in the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust.

The scheme comprised demolition of the existing school buildings and construction of circa 1300m² new build over two storeys. The new building is an exemplar of accessible design, providing unrestricted equal access for all building users, and support for those with a physical, sensory or learning disability, including a public Changing Places Standard toilet.

The building users benefit from the extensive landscaped gardens, including secure enclosed ‘garden rooms’ for the children and more open courtyard spaces for all.
